Betfair breaks records at Grand National
Betfair set new records for the online betting industry during Saturday’s Grand National. The company managed outbound bandwidth at 143 MB/second, up from 110MB/second during this year’s Cheltenham Festival. 99.9 per cent of bets received were transacted in less than one second and 14,992 calls were taken in one day, up from 12,714 calls in one day during Cheltenham.
Matched bet turnover on the Grand National itself rose to a record £4.25m, up from £3.29m during the 2004 Grand National, with the total number of bets rising to 2.5m from 2m in 2004. Betfair’s web site proved extremely resilient during one of the busiest days in the horseracing calendar.
“I am delighted to report that Betfair continues to break new ground in providing the best possible service to our users. This is thanks to the dedication of our staff and the £30m investment we have made in our technology,” said Stephen Hill, Betfair’s chief executive.
