Sportsbook.com Post Early Odds for 2008 Presidential Race
Online bookie, Sportsbook.com has jumped the gun on party pollsters by releasing odds on the candidates Americans might prefer as the Republican and Democratic 2008 presidential candidates and strong odds on women and visible minorities highlight America’s changing political landscape.
Sportsbook.com have prepared a list of odds for political aficionados with Democrat Hilary Clinton, a 6-1 favourite, running against Republican Rudy Giuliani, a 10-1 favourite.
With no incumbent president running, the race could produce some startling firsts. Sportsbook.com lists three African Americans as potential candidates. Barrack Obama and Colin Powell currently have odds of 30-1, while Condoleezza Rice is listed as a 15-1 favourite. What’s more, two of the top four most likely candidates, Rice and Clinton, are female. This means that there is a very good chance the next presidential election could feature a female or visible minority presidential candidate for the first time in American history.
Adding to the fun and challenge, Sportsbook.com is offering odds on a number of less likely presidential candidates from film director Michael Moore to conservative news personality Bill O’Reilly and California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“Wagering on the US presidential election is far and away the most popular online novelty bet in the world, generating millions of dollars in revenue,” said Alex Czajkowski, Marketing Director, Sportsbook.com. “With America politically divided and with mid-term Congressional elections heating up over the summer, the betting public is really interested in the odds right now.”
